REVIEW: Colour Freedom's "Crimson Red" vegan dye on virgin hair

Wie bitte? Ja, ihr seht richtig. Ich bin jetzt Pink. Und zu dieser Farbexplosion hat mir eine der auswaschbaren Haartönungen der Marke Knight&Wilson verholfen, die ich heute reviewen möchte.

What?! Yes, your eyes are not betraying you. I'm pink now! A temporary hairdye by the brand Knight&Wilson has helped me to achieve this explosion of color, and today I want to review this product and give you my thoughts on it.

Erstmal Margarine-bei-de'-veganen-Fischersatz: Warum denn bitte Pink? Gute Frage. Ich hatte erst vor, meine Haare etwas intensiver Orange zu färben, ohne sofort wieder Henna verwenden zu müssen. Das habe ich erst vor c.a. einem Monat gemacht, dabei aber zuviel Cassia verwendet, sodass diesmal kaum Farbe zum Vorschein gekommen ist.

Dadurch bin ich wieder zu dem Thema der auswaschbaren Tönungen gekommen. Bei Rossmann stehen neuerdings die Colour Freedom -Produkte im Regal...da bin ich neugierig geworden. Die Farbe "Coral Blush" hat mir total zugesagt, aber der Konsens im Internet dazu fiel eher so "meh" aus. Andere Tönungen auf Amazon und Ebay waren mir für die kleinen Mengen zu teuer.

Was macht man da? Genau, man nimmt sich einfach eine andere Farbe der Marke, ganz getreu dem frischen Jugend-Motto "you only live once", und experimentiert. Wie ein ganz normaler, rationaler Mensch ☺

// Let's talk about the "why Pink??". Well, a few days ago, I was planning to go for a more intense orange without having to use henna again already. I used it about a month ago, but mixing in too much cassia so that there was barely any color showing up.

That way, I stumbled across the topic of temporary hair-dye again. The "Colour-Freedom" dyes that I found in the shelves of a German drugstore kinda made me curious. I loved the shade "Coral Blush", but the consensus of the internet regarding this particular one was rather "meh". However, other brands on the internet didn't convince me with their prices.

So what does one do in this situation? Exactly, you just take a different color-shade by that drugstore brand - think of the modern teenage-motto "you only live once" - and start to experiment. Like a totally rational, normal person ☺

Die Packung enthält zudem Färbehandschuhe und eine Gebrauchsanweisung, in der die verschiedenen Farben mit ihre Verdünnungsgraden aufgelistet sind.

Nachdem ich eine Textsträhne gemacht und mir meine Haare gewaschen hatte (temporäre Haarfarben halten besser auf nicht-fettigem Haar), lächelte ich mich aufgeregt in den Schlaf und durfte am nächsten Morgen endlich ran. Ihr merkt, wie sehr ich das Färben vermisst habe.

Ungefähr die Hälfte des Tönungs-Inhalts und eine große Menge von einem billigen Conditioner landeten in der Farbschüssel. Ich hatte vor, viel Kurkuma beizumischen, um die Farge Orange-stichiger werden zu lassen. Als ich bemerkt habe, wie viel ich brauchen würde, habe ich es aber gelassen. Egal, würde schon gut werden.

About half of the Color Freedom-tube and a big amount of cheap conditioner landed in my mixing bowl. I started to mix in some turmeric to get a more orangy-color, but then eventually gave up when I noticed how much I would need. Eh, something cool would come out eventually.

Dem Rat meiner Instagram-Follower, das Ganze auf das trockene Haar aufzutragen, bin ich gefolgt. Mir war sehr wichtig, meinen Ansatz und die Schläfen zu erwischen, weil ich dort einige extrem hell-blonde Stellen habe, die mich ziemlich nerven. Da ich noch ein wenig meiner eigenen Haarfarbe herausblitzen lassen wollte und die Farbe für meinen gesamten Haarmop eh nicht gereicht hätte, zog ich sie nur in Teile meiner Längen.

I followed the advice of my instagram-pals to apply the dye to dry hair. It was really important to me to cover my roots around my face - the hairs in those places are really light blonde for some reason, and that always bothers me. To have my natural/henna-ed haircolor still showing through, I only applied the dye to some strands of my hair in the lengths.

Die hartnäckigen Flecken, die die Farbe in meiner Dusche und auf mir hinterlassen hat, hätten mir  schon bewusst machen können, dass das Ergebnis intensiv werden wird! Da kann ein Kleemors wie ich von Glück reden, dass sie mit viel Schrubben wieder weggehen.

E R G E B N I S / R E S U L T

Boom! "Ach, ich bekomme sicher nur ein paar nette Farbakkzente", dachte ich mir. Aber Nö: Hinter der Haartönung steckt echt Power. 

Ich habe schon viele Erfahrungen in vergangenen Haarfärbe-Aktionen gesammelt, aber eine Tönung, die so gut auf unblondierten Haaren zu sehen ist, habe ich auch noch nie erlebt. Auf jeden Fall glänzen und riechen die Haare schön und ich freue mich total über die Veränderung. Die Bilder habe ich im frisch-gefärbten und trockenem Zustand gemacht - mal sieht die Farbe eher Dunkelrot aus, im Licht aber viel mehr Pink.

I've made lots of experiences in my past using multiple different types of dyes - but I've never came across a temporary one that shows up that intense on unbleached hair. As usual with temp. dyes, my hair looks and smells really nice and I'm really excited about this easy but intense change. I took the pictures of the freshly-dyed and dry hair - sometimes the color looks rather dark red, but under bright light it's really pink-ish.

Kritik? / critical thoughts?

Positiv ist, dass diese Nuance definitiv ihr Versprechen hält. Zu übersehen ist das Ergebnis definitv nicht!

Das einzige, das mich insgesamt stört, ist die Farbauswahl der Marke, bzw. die Darstellung der Farben. "Crimson Red" sieht auf der Packung eher Pink-Rot aus, auf der Anleitung eher Dunkelrot. Was denn nu? Dasselbe bei der Farbe "Coral Blush", die auf der Packung intensiv Orange wirkt, in Reviews im Web aber viel heller und gelbstichtiger. Die Bilder auf den Boxen müssen etwas verbessert werden, um wirklich hilfreich zu sein; oder die Farb-Range sollte angepasst werden.

The only thing that bothers me about this product is the shade-range, or rather the way the colors are shown. The shade 'Crimson Red' looks very pink on the box, but a little more true-red in the instructions. So what exactly is it? Same with the 'Coral Blush' - on the box it seems intensively orange, but some reviews on the web show that it's a light, even slightly yellow color. The pictures on the box need to be worked on a little to be truly helpful.

Wie sich die Farbe in den nächsten Wochen herauswäscht, werde ich über die nächsten Wochen hier dokumentieren. 

Wenn sie sich eine Weile lang so schön hält, kann ich sie wirklich reinen gewissens weiterempfehlen. Bis hierhin kann ich trotzdem nur sagen: gönnt euch ruhig die Colour-Freedom Tönungen für eure nächste Färbefieber-Kurzschlussreaktion! ☺

Update 1: 1. Haarwäsche / 1st wash

(so, an dieser Stelle ist ein Link zu meiner Haarpflegeroutine angebracht)

Ich war wirklich gespannt, wie sehr sich die Farbe mit der 1. Wäsche herauswäscht. Wie immer habe ich ein Ölgemisch in meine Kopfhaut massiert (war nötig), obwohl ich Angst hatte, dass das intensive Shampoonieren danach sehr viel von der Farbe lösen würde. Ich habe also weniger Öl als sonst genutzt und musste so nur 1x shampoonieren. Interessanterweise hat sogar nur das pinke Wasser meine Dusche wieder eingefärbt :D
Die Farbe ist immer noch sehr schön. Sieht aber auch immer anders aus, auf meinem Handy Pink, auf meinem Laptop Rot. Die Haare direkt am Ansatz sind nicht mehr ganz so intensiv, aber trotzdem bin ich überrascht, wie gut die Farbe auf unblondiertem Haar hält. Mal schauen wann ich das nächste Update mache - je nachdem, wie sich die Farbe "entwickelt". Bis denne!

I was really excited to see if most of the dye would be gone after the first wash. As always, I massaged some oil onto my scalp (because it really needed it), although I was scared that the intense shampooing afterwards would get rid of too much of the color. So I used much less oil than usual and got it out with shampooing just once. Interestingly, although it was just pinkish water, it still stained my shower again :D Anyways, I'm glad that the color is still this vibrant. Funny how it looks more pink on my phone but red on my laptop screen. Some color has vanished right at my scalp, but other than that, still feeling vibrant! I'm not sure when I'll update next, depending on how much my color changes. See ya then!

Update 2: 2. & 3. Haarwäsche / 2nd + 3rd wash

 2nd Wash

Habe auch dieses Mal nur ein wenig Öl einmassiert und einmal shampooniert. Wie man sieht ist diesmal ziemlich viel Farbe herausgekommen, besonders wenn man den Haaransatz ansieht, an dem die Farbe scheinbar komplett raus ist. Als ich mir meine Haare früher regelmäßig gefärbt habe, habe ich über Ansätze unglaublich aufgeregt - in diesem Fall stört es mich ehrlich gesagt garnicht.

I continued with only oiling my scalp as little as possible and shampooing just once. Obviously, a lot of the dye has come out once again. Looking at my scalp, you can see that the color washed out completely at first centimeter of hair. I always used to obsess over every little millimeter of roots showing when i used to dye my hair regularily, but in this case I don't think it's looking too bad.

3rd wash

 

Die Farbe verblasst nun definitiv. Die pinken Pigmente scheinen sich am schnellesten auszuwaschen, und die Farbe wird immer mehr zu einem blassen Rot. In bestimmten Lichtverhältnissen wirkt die Farbe aber immer noch intensiv, besonders unter direktem Sonnenlicht!

The color is definitely fading now. I think the pink pigments are washing out the quickest, and the color is turing more dark red. It's still intense it some lighting though, especially in the sunlight!

Letztes Update / last update

An diesem Punkt beende ich meine kleine Update-Serie, weil ich letzte Woche meine Haare wieder etwas mehr Pink bekommen wollte und sie etwas blondiert habe. Weitere Auswaschbilder zu machen würde also keinen Sinn ergeben ☺

Wie ihr in den letzten paar Bildern sehen könnt, ist die Farbe natürlich stark ausgewaschen. In einigen Bildern sah sie noch sehr intensiv aus; in anderen (wie nach Wäsche 5&6) wirkte sie schon fast ganz ausgewaschen. Das letzte obige Bild zeigt meine Haare, bevor ich wieder etwas mit ihnen angestellt habe - wie man sieht, war definitv noch Farbe vorhanden.

Dass es sich ausgewaschen hat, störte mich garnicht so sehr, wie ich erwartet hatte. Zwischenzeitlich wirkten meine Haare Rosé-Gold, und zuletzt intensiv Orange-Rot. Meiner Meinung nach ist die Farbe sehr langanhaltend für eine direktziehende Tönung. Sie hätte volle 10 Haarwäschen (wie auf der Box angegeben) definitv überstanden, vielleicht sogar noch mehr. Da ich nur alle 3-4 Tage meine Haare wasche, hatte ich sehr lange etwas von der Farbe!

// I'm ending my little update-series here because last week, I wanted to get my hair more pink and bleached it, thus taking more washing-out pics wouldn't make sense.

Let's sum this all up! As you can see in these last few pictures, the dye did fade quiet a lot. In some pictures it still looked quiet vibrant, while in others (like the one after wash 5/6) it looks like it has mostly faded. The last picture above shows how my hair looked before I changed it by bleaching, so you can see that there definitely still was color in. 

I actually didn't mind it fading! Sometimes my hair looked rosé-gold, and towards the end it just  seemed like a more-intense, orange version of my natural haircolor. I do think however that the dye is really longlasting for a temporary type, and I doubt that it would've washed out completely. The box says that it lasts for 6-10 washes, which i think is definitely true, maybe even longer than that. Since I only wash my hair every 3-4 days, I was able to enjoy it for quiet a while.

F A Z I T / C O N C L U S I O N

So! Endlich ein Fazit! Wenn ihr eure Haarfarbe gerne oft ändert, wäre diese Farbe vielleicht nichts für euch. Solltet ihr aber eben genau nach einer Farbe suchen, die

• langanhaltend, 
• vegan & tierversuchsfrei, 
• auf unblondiertem Haar haltend
• und in der Drogerie zu einem guten Preisleistungsverhältnis zu finden ist,

...kann ich diese nur empfehlen! ✌
