Heute geht es unter anderem um das größte Deutsche Kulturmerkmal neben der Kartoffel - Socken in Sandalen.
Today this entry is about the biggest cultural element of German culture next to the potato - socks in sandals.
Ich wollte mit dem Standart-Satz "einige lieben sie, einige hassen sie" beginnen, aber bei genauerer Überlegung fällt mir keine Person ein, die diesen "Socken in Sandalen"-Look auf irgendeine Weise feiert. Also war mir vollkommen klar, dass ich den ersten, bequemen Schritt machen musste.
I was going to write the standard phrase "some people love them, some people hate them" but, actually, nobody seems to like the "socks in sandals" look. So, naturally, it was clear to me that I had to make the first comfortable step.
Als Teil einer der unzähligen Generationen, die seit dem 2. WK mittlerweile in Deutschland entstanden sind, scheint es fast die Essenz meiner Generation zu sein, eine kulturelle Krise zu haben. Ich fühle mich oft auf der Schwelle stehend zwischen einem Hass über alles, was "deutsch" ist auf der einen Seite, aber auch einer Art Stolz auf das, was dieses Land bisher erreicht hat, auf der anderen. Ich habe aber lange gebraucht, letzteres überhaupt zuzulassen. Früher habe ich nichteinmal deutsche Musik gehört, weil ich "kein Nazi sein wollte".
Being part of one of the numerous generations that was created after the 2nd World War in Germany, having a cultural identity crisis somewhat seems to be the essence of my generation. I often feel like I'm on the verge between a constant hatred for everything German on the one hand, and a certain kind of proudness regarding how far this country has come, on the other. Although it took me quiet a while to accept the latter - back in the day I wouldn't even listen to german music because I "didn't want to be a nazi".
Aber mir gefällt der typische Vintage-look des 20. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland (Samt-Sofas, Blumen-muster, Fliesen-tische, Holzschnitzereien, Prozellan, und der ganze Kram) so gut, und ich fände es sehr schade, wenn dieser wieder negativ behaftet wird (unter anderem durch die Wahlplakate der AfD) und bleibt. So muss es doch nicht sein!Im Zuge meiner Experimente mit traditionellem deutschen Stil darf natürlich auch der klassische "Socken in Sandalen" Look nicht fehlen. Dieser wurde dadurch bekannt, dass ältere deutsche Männer im Urlaub weiße Socken in ihren Birkenstocks zur Show stellten (und es wohl auch immer noch tun) - so wurde es weltweit zu einem Stereotypen. Perfekt für jede Kostüm-Party, oder einfach nur um den Leute mit deiner "Ich trage was ich möchte"-Attitude ans Bein zu pissen.
Birkenstock Milanos habe ich for einigen Wochen auf Ebay Kleinanzeigen ergattert, und coole gelbe @Unif Socken hab ich auch. Also bringe ich diesen (überraschend bequemen) Brauch mal in einen modernen Kontext:
But I absolutely love the typical vintage look of the 20th century in Germany (velvet sofas, floral pat-terns, ceramic-tile-tables, wood carvings, porcellain...), and I would be quiet sad if it was completely connected to negative spheres again (currently by the "new" german nationalist party AfD, who use German stereotypes in traditional clothing for their campaign ads). It doesn't have to be this way.
As part of my experiments with traditional german style, the "socks in sandals" look shouldn't be missing :') It became famous through men who showed of their Birkenstock sandals wearing white socks while on vacation - which is why it became a worldwide stereotype. Perfect for every costume party - or just for pissing people off with your "I wear what I want" - attitude.
I snatched Birkenstock Milanos on ebay a while ago, and I've got cool bright yellow @Unif socks. So now, I'll try to bring this (suprisingly comfy) tradition into a modern context:
